Newell Bringhurst – A Panel On The Temple Ban, 40 Years Later

Join us Thursday, April 26th, at 7 pm for a panel discussion with Newell Bringhurst, author of Saints, Slaves, and Blacks: The Changing Place of Black People within Mormonism

2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the 1978 revelation, ending the prohibition on black Latter-day Saints participating in temple ordinances and on black men and boys receiving priesthood ordination. Bringhurst will be joined for a panel discussion by LDS convert and philosophy scholar Tarik D. Lacour. They will discuss a wide range of subjects, from the origin and development of the ban to shifting Mormon views on slavery to the present-day legacy of rescinding the ban and the persistence of racism and racial tensions within Mormonism.

This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
