"She Shall Be an Ensign": Incorporating Women into General Church History, with Ardis E. Parshall

A steady stream of published women’s history attests to the growing recognition of the presence of women in the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Too little of that work, however, is incorporated into the general story of Church history, and into the curriculum and awareness of Latter-day Saints – it remains a subspecialty – women’s history rather than Church history. "She Shall Be an Ensign" proposes to change that, by being the first general Church history told as far as possible through the experiences and contributions of the women who lived that history.

Ardis E. Parshall outlines what we've been missing by telling a history that overlooks the presence and contributions of women, and how including women’s contributions can enrich our appreciation of Mormon heritage and history. Her lecture was followed by a Q&A and discussion with the audience.
